FILM MAKER

Tridib Raman as a Film Maker

Fans were upset over the magazine’s decision to publish this photo. Sarah Ivens, editorial director, said that the cover decision was made since they wanted to stand out from all of the tribute covers that were dominating the stands that week. Jackson died on June 25, 2009 after being given a cocktail of drugs by his physician.

Tridib Raman is immensely inspired by the art & style of veteran Indian movie-maker Guru Dutt. It was Dutt who first made ‘songs’ the integral & contextual part of hindi movies. Before him, songs used to be a parallel form of art in movies. Dutt’s second great contribution to the world of hindi movies is the prominent use of ‘close-ups’ in movies instead of full-shots. According to him ‘face’ is the most important means of expression in acting. What a thousand words and actions can’t convey, a slight bent of brows can convey it aptly and wonderfully. These two great innovations of Dutt proved to be a milestone in the hindi movie-making. Apart rom Dutt, the two other film-maker who left a lasting impression on Raman’s work are – Felini- the noted French Film director & Mazeit majeidi – the renowned Iranian director. Even while greatly inspired by these great minds Raman doesn’t lack innovations and is always in search of new ideas & forms of art.

Raman strongly believes that movie-making is more of a team-work and there should be a strong team-spirit in each and every member of the unit, which must be reflected in the movie as a whole. He supports the use of new and modern tchniues in the Indianmovies to make it in par to the Hollywood movies. He is the first Indian film-maker to use techniue in his documentary movie.
